Last season’s Chilean player of the year and one of South America’s brightest talents, attacking midfielder Villanueva has 12 caps to his name, grabbing one goal from his dozen games for Chile to date, whilst he has averaged almost goal every other game for his club side.
Signed on an initial one-year loan from Chilean side Audax Italiano, Rovers do have the option of turning the loan move into a permanent deal at a pre-agreed fee.
The player has also agreed terms with Rovers to extend his contract for a further three years if the option is exercised.
Made his senior debut for Rovers in the Carling Cup against Grimsby, putting in a man-of-the-match performance, scoring one and creating two further goals in Rovers’ 4-1 win.
